gynoid audio, one of the few female labels around, started her course in 2010. she s now one of the most prolific labels when it comes to a variety of functional techno, with focus on drive, mood, dirt and depth. the amount of well-established veterans (both old and new) who released or remixed for the label, or newcomers who saw their career start on gynoid, is impressive. it also describes why its one of the most charted labels in it s field of operation. to celebrate the mains series 100th release and the continuance of the label we decided to preset a massive va compilation spanning over three releases. here is a limited green vinyl of the second volume from the 100th compilation, featuring brand new tracks by audio injection, black hats, mattias fridell, rraph.

ron maney also known as dj skull lived in the southside of chicago (il, usa). his musical career started during the summer of 1986, while recovering from a broken bone. during the following years he homed his craft, djing first at basement parties, building his reputation to go on to larger events such as, loft and hotel parties, and eventually the infamous music box and power plant clubs. at the age of fifteen ron shopped his first demo at trax records. there he first met chicago s legendary dj ron hardy, working as a&r for trax records. two years, and a new alias later (dj skull) later while at the power plant, chicago s own steve poindexter heard a dj playing one of rons tracks, and met ron. steve was now a&r at saber records and invited ron to release some tracks. so in october of 1991 dj skull s first record -n.r.g. music- was released. in 1993, he released the ep -the stomping grounds- on djax-up-beats, which was more noted than the first one. over the years that followed dj skull released lots of ep s on several labels. he has become well-respected producer and dj in the techno industry

martin lewis, the insane house kid from berlin is breaking bad with his new and massive “rewind ep” on freebase records. with his first strike “believer” he delivers a flat footed house banger with a grumpy bassline, flavoured with an hypnotizing vocal sample. the second track “ breaking bad”, a genuine groove tool, is also influenced by martins garage credo. sublime melody riffs are competing with a wiggling bassline. tuff city kids, aka gerd janson and phillip lauer come up with two mind- boggling remixes of “believer”. at the “acid remix” they take out their breaky 90s acid drumset. this one is dry, jacking and sophisticatedly tribal. the “tuff city kids remix” starts with desert- dry acid elements which grow up to an uplifting acid soundwall. a true “jack in the box”.

now ovo, the eagerly awaited new luca bacchetti ep, is here! with this work on his endless imprint, luca seems to be delineating a new soundscape, maintaining the psychedelia he introduced into his productions a few years ago, but now more synthetic and in some ways even minimalist. in ovo we can find a brace of dancefloor tracks, no gravity and the space between us, that maintain and harness luca s emotional and intricate atmospheres whilst also employing powerful sounds and elements that embrace the movement of the body. mature, emotional techno, where ethereal dream-like atmospheres find a singular expression and their own distinct identity. it is no coincidence that the whole ep was recorded entirely high up in the tosco emiliano apennines: a place where, for luca, nature is the element that most influences this new aural pathway. as he himself states: “it’s this contrast between isolated lands and the chaos of the big city that produces this state of being: a new dialogue. they are two worlds which overlap within my soul: when i’m in new york i think of these mountains and when i’m here i think of the bustle of tour life .. but it’s up here that i find the seed, in this case ovo.”

limited to 250 copies, each with screenprinted artwork unique to each record. glaswegian producer marco bernardi offers up 4 tracks of unsettling, quirky, off the wall techno and electro. marco has released on many respected labels over the years including clone, crème organization, soma and frustrated funk. along with his heavy release schedule, marco has also launched his own label take the elevator that focuses on non-conventional house and techno.

when chateau flight was approached to participate to this live project of covers of terry riley, together with le cabaret contemporain, they immediatly said yes. it was the occasion to play great music from a majeur influence of them, and also to play it live with some great musicians. the live experience went so great that they decided to go in the mythical vogue studio (around paris), to record it. the idea was to have a full live take, no edits, to capture the magic of the improvisation. cabaret contemporain is 2 prepared double basses, 1 drummer, 1 guitar player, 1 prepared piano. chateau flight(i:cube and gilb-r) providing the electronics sounds and the mixdown here is the result.

always hard at work unearthing interesting new projects or forgotten old gems, opilec music is now serving up a retrospective compilation of highly esteemed chicago producer jordan fields best work from 1986 - 1991. field has been active now for some thirty years (on labels like rush hour, headphoniq and mo wax) but his best work was arguably done in his first decade or so. now opilec boss i-robots has been given access to a collection of field s early recordings and has selected, compiled & conceived this project himself. it will be presented as a full-length album but will also arrive in a few select ep parts, with this being the first one

anchored between the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s, when industrial music courted funk, when electro(nica) made a shy appearance and house was visceral and plaintive, also inspired by current r&b productions and futuristic hip-hop, tropics of love is a slow tempo record that shines like a steel sun and rings diabolically romantic.

following up to their much applauded international debut save the youth, denmarks answer to warpaint,giana factory, return with their second album lemon moon this spring 2014. fronted by louise foo (sister of sharin of the raveonettes) and flanked by lisbet fritze (who also plays guitar in the trentemoller band) and sofie johanne, giana factory specialize in a wonderful kind of iced pop, beautiful songwriting with a lot of depth and diy attitude punch.

around7 follows up his two laidback funk/jazz albums for robsoul jazz with his first ever venture into house music. his double crossing ep released through the main robsoul recordings imprint on 4th april 2014. the parisian, who previously delivered the back to basics and soul on wire lps to critical acclaim, continues his production style of sampling complemented by live, organic sounds. producer influences such as j dilla and dj premier continue to be in evidence, alongside the jazz of miles davis, bill evans and the legendary blue note records, all given a 4/4 twist.the result is four stripped back tracks with a low slung, smoky atmosphere, packed pull of acoustic sounds and live instrumentation. those who remember joss moogs early outings on robsoul will also find parallels here around7s music career began as a bassist and trumpet player in a jazz/funk band. after learning to play keyboard and discovering the akai mpc sampler and software such as cubase, he merged all of his skills together to create his own tracks based around live instrumentation and samples.

it is a two heads job. parisians producers pawn heart and fareed (also half of the techno duo society of silence) deliver a first split ep. for over a year, influenced by the raw sound of detroit and chicago, they were exchanging tips and compositions, catching each other, when possible, in the cold but intense urban landscape, drawn between northern paris neighbourhoods and banlieue.

royer, a talented young french producer and designer based in copenhagen, provides the fifth tasteful nudes release – the tough questions ep. its four tracks reveal a stunning depth to this newcomers aesthetic, at turns delicately gorgeous and boisterous fun placed inside punchy, hip-hop informed house grooves. its also the first tasteful nudes release to arrive its own full artwork jacket, designed by royer himself.

dustin zahn makes his album debut in march 2014 with the release of monoliths on adam beyers drumcode label. gestating over a period of a four years during break from releasing original solo material, monoliths sees the minneapolis native capturing the full breadth of his production style in the long-player format for the first time. having become a mainstay of the drumcode line-ups for their berghain residency and beyond, the challenge was set for the berlin-based zahn to build upon the reputation he has established in the past decade-and-a-half since he first arrived on the scene, during which time he has also given a platform to artists such as dvs1, minilogue, psyk and truncate via his enemy records imprint.

the phrase *feux follets* from which archipel 105 draws its title, comes from the latin ignis fatuus, and translates as will-o’-the-wisp. the etymology reaches back to old folktales in which ill-intentioned spirits would cast an atmospheric glow at night, in order to lead weary travellers astray. today, the term refers to ghost-lights - artificial light reflections caused by decomposing organic emissions. anyway you choose to understand it, this music contains the mysterious and unattainable. feux follets are meant to depict an elusive (and perhaps also illusive) ambition. a tense equilibrium colours the constant, foundational sounds with aleatory movements. the compositions are detail-oriented, and boldly explore their tangential elements.

philipp weber is a musician living and working in leipzig, germany. his main focus when creating music is to capture the moment by using all kinds of instruments in a playful and intuitive way, experimenting with rhythms, sounds and melodies. his songs are ideas, emotions and thoughts that he tries to translate into music. »its like speaking a language«, he says, »without knowing its grammar, still trying to find the right words.« philipp is one half of the project webermichelson a two-piece band focused on merg- ing kraut and experimental music through drums, synths and guitars. webermichelson have been a core ingredient of the holger universe from the very start, one of their live shows actually being the moment where it all began. with his first mini album weber now joins the holger family also as a solo artist
